Wisdom Teeth

"Wisdom teeth" or 3rd molars are the teeth that form in the very back of your mouth.  Many times they look like your other molar teeth, but frequently they have different root structure or orientation than the neighboring teeth.  Many people have their wisdom teeth removed in their late teens or early adulthood as a result of crowding issues, or problems keeping the tooth clean and healthy.  In some instances, people have been known to retain their wisdom teeth for their whole lives, but this is not a very common occurrence.  These molars are typically retained until they become a problem, then they are removed without effecting the patient's chewing ability.
